BNEF’s Dialogue with Cheng Chenguang: Frank Communication, Mutual Trust and Support, Benefiting the World with "Chinese Solutions"

Time:2024-11-01 Number:0 From:WINDEY

Recently, at the BNEF Summit London 2024 sponsored by Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF), Cheng Chenguang, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and general manager of WINDEY, received an exclusive interview with BNEF journalists, discussing topics such as “How to actively explore overseas markets, explore localized production solutions, and promote global green and low-carbon transformation”.

In recent years, as Chinese wind power manufacturers went global in succession, a surge of protectionism has emerged in the new energy field. In this case, gaining a firm foothold has become the top priority for Chinese wind power enterprises to expand their overseas business. As the birthplace of modern wind power technology, Europe not only boasts numerous excellent enterprises, but also is a key area for implementation of WINDEY's overseas strategy. When it comes to the topic “How to better exploit the European market”, Cheng Chenguang believes that an enterprise should abandon the wrong idea of seeking quick success and instant benefits and maintain an optimistic attitude for long-term development. It should fully adapt to local requirements for technology and financing, and receive recognition from the market by providing customers with premium generator set products and individualized services. He noted that Chinese wind power enterprises should invest more management and technical resources to create more overseas models for "Made in China" and achieve win-win cooperation.

Over the past years, mainstream developers in the industry have given more and more attention to the cost of new energy investment. Whether it is possible to achieve a lower levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) throughout the life cycle has become the key for Chinese enterprises including WINDEY to gain a foothold in the European market. Promoting localized production is one of the important ways to effectively bring down the LCOE. Cheng Chenguang said that WINDEY is actively exploring feasible solutions. By leveraging the excellent local technical conditions, supplier resources and talent reserves, WINDEY will further optimize the LCOE and improve power generation efficiency.

It has been nearly one year since COP28 reached a "Historic Agreement", and the process of global green and low-carbon transformation has come into a new stage. In 2023, the global newly installed wind power capacity reached 118 GW. Of which, Chinese enterprises’ newly installed capacity amounted to 77 GW, accounting for 65% of the global total, implying the contribution of China's wind power industry to the world rises with each passing day, and China’s wind power industry provides supports for achieving the goals set by COP28 by virtue of its abundant project experience and full-fledged solutions. Cheng Chenguang said that frank communication, mutual trust and support are vital prerequisites for accelerating the deployment of wind power projects and promoting the development of global wind energy business. At present, the globalization of the wind power industry is an irresistible trend, and the wind power industry chain and supply chain around the world are closely intertwined, thus it’s urgent for us to create an impartial and equitable market environment as a strong support. Cheng hopes to take this exclusive interview as an opportunity to convey to the world WINDEY's vision for healthy competition and international cooperation, so that more "Chinese Solutions" with wind power wisdom can truly benefit the world.
