Recently, Phase I (100,000t Demonstration Project) of Alxa 500,000t/a Green Methanol Project was officially kicked off in the Alxa High-tech Industrial Development Zone. It’s worth saying that the Alxa 500,000t/a Green Methanol Project is China’s first 500,000-ton-level green methanol project in which green methanol is synthesized through ICCHP process (namely, coupling of water electrolysis for hydrogen production and carbon dioxide captured from industry).
This demonstration project is invested jointly by Zhejiang Alcohol Hydrogen Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd. under Geely Remote New Energy Commercial Vehicle Group, WINDEY, China South-to-North Water Diversion Group, and Inner Mongolia Alxa Energy Company. In this project, green methanol is synthesized through ICCHP process, achieving the resource recovery of carbon dioxide. It is China's first 500,000-ton-level green methanol project in which green methanol is synthesized through ICCHP process. It is learned that after being fully put into production, the project can reduce carbon emissions by nearly 750,000 tons per year, which will further enrich China's energy conservation and emission reduction methods, and bring good social and economic benefits. The project will provide a feasible technical solution for the implementation of the "Dual Carbon" targets.
In recent years, amid the rapid development and extensive application of renewable energy, promoting the transformation of energy structure has become an issue of common concern in the industry. In view of China's status quo (namely, rich in coal, short of gas, and lacking in oil), it is imperative to stress energy security and explore diversified alternative green energy plans.
As a leading new energy service enterprise in the industry, WINDEY has an abundance of experience for equipment manufacturing, project development, water electrolysis for hydrogen production, and hydrogen industry chain in the field of new energy power generation. In response to the clean fuel industry’s market development towards diversity and differences, WINDEY has put forward solutions and forward-looking concepts on the integration of new energy hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol production. Nowadays, green methanol can be synthesized from the process in which green hydrogen is produced from renewable energy such as solar and wind energy and then carbon dioxide hydrogenation technology is adopted. Green methanol is becoming a key energy carrier little by little.
On October 25, the Administrative Office of Alxa League issued the "Implementation Plan for the Development of Alxa League Green Methanol Demonstration Industry", clearly stating that Alxa League will be built into a world-leading large base for green methanol energy production. Simultaneously, Alxa League will promote the popularization and application of methanol vehicles in the whole league. It’s the abundant wind and solar resources of Alxa League that underlie the launch of this demonstration project. Taking the construction of a large new energy base as an opportunity, the project will promote the integration and development of traditional coal chemical industry and new energy, effectively enhance the local capacity for consuming green electricity, and accelerate the iterative upgrading of the traditional energy structure, in order to provide important support for building new-type energy system and ensuring national energy security.
The launching ceremony was attended by Bai Hailin, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and head of the Alxa League, Liu Chongxiao, member of the Party Leadership Group and deputy head of the Administrative Office of the Alxa League, Liu Xiande, secretary of the Party Working Committee of the Alxa High-tech Industrial Development Zone and Demonstration Zone, Liu Hanru, chief scientist of Geely Remote New Energy Commercial Vehicle Group and general manager of Chunqing Ecology Company, Huang Jinbiao, member of the Party Committee and deputy general manager of China South-to-North Water Diversion Group, and Wei Min, member of the Party Committee and deputy general manager of WINDEY, and other leaders, who jointly laid the foundation for the project.
